Apple snails, large tropical freshwater snails from the family Ampullariidae have been identified in the diet of the endangered Chacoan peccary, Catagonus wagneri. Apple snail shells of the type found in Paraguay, Pomacea canaliculata, have a mean weight of 7.8 gms (N = 50). No previous reports documenting these gastropods as being included in the peccary's diet have been found.
