The city was one of the largest communities in the history of the
southern part of Thailand. It is believed that it was the location of
the ancient kingdom of “Lanka Suka” or “Lang-ya-xiu”. According
to the documents of China, Java, Malayia, and Arab, presuming the
structure of the ancient town was a large oval shape with an area
of 9 square kilometers covered 3 towns including.
- Ban Wat Ancient Town has a square in the centre, and is surrounded
by moats. There are 25 ancient remain scattered here, especially
in the western and northern of Ban Cha-le.
- Ban Cha-le Ancient Town has a pond in the centre and is surrounded
by square-shape moats, this town is only one kilometre north of
Ban Wat Ancient Town.
- Ban Prawae Ancient Town is a small trapezium town with 4 forts
in the corners. There were 2 canals connecting with Ban Ja-le in
the north.
Moreover, there are at least 30 areas of ruined ancient hills.
