The system was left to stand for several days until
no appreciable gas production was observed. The NH3
and CH concentrations in the gas produced, and the 4
elements contained within the aluminum dross, were
analyzed. Additionally, to determine whether the
hazardous leachable heavy metals containing in the
dross before and after processing exceeded the acceptable
limit (Maximum Concentration of Contaminants
for Toxicity Characteristic, U.S. EPA 40 CFP 261.24),
dross samples before and after treatment were obtained
and analyzed. The metals and heavy metals analyzed
included Al, Fe, As, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, Cu, Ni, and Zn,
for a total of 10 elements.
