Questions for reflection
A researcher has a duty to obtain informed consent from participants in research Consider a researcher who wishes to explore whether teachers interact differenty with students according to gender ie., interacting more often with boys than girls ( or vice versa), or interacting in a different way with boys and girls. The researcher needs to get permission informed consent from teachers to undertake observation in their classes. How much detail of the purpose of the observations should the researcher reveal in advance? Could it ever be ethically appropriate to deliberately mislead research participants about the nature and purposes of research when seeking their informed consent?
