One of CSEAS Special Collections is Charas Collection which comprises 4,000
cremation books or “Nangsu Ngan Sop”. The cremation books are interesting
because of their identity, rarity and value (Amporn Tikhara quoted in Nawarat
Panyangam , 2006). CSEAS Library has already published 3 bibliographies titled
“Articles of Thai Cremation Books in The Center for Southeast Asian Studies Library,
Kyoto University” - one in 2006 by Nawarat Panyangam, one in 2007 by Surithong
Srisa-ard, and one in 2011 by Jiraphan Intarasiripong. This book is the 4th one of
articles of Thai cremation books and is the 9th copy in CSEAS Bibliographical Series.
This bibliography covers 748 articles from 191 titles (221 volumes /or copies) of
Charas Collection. The Romanization (of the book titles and the deceased) and the
entry of Thai names are referred to the ALA-LC Romanization Tables : Transliteration
schemes for non-Roman scripts, and Names of Persons: National Usages for Entry in
Catalogues respectively in Part III Appendix of this book.
The author of this book is grateful to all previous three authors whose work is
considered as guidelines for this copy, especially to Khun Nawarat Panyangam who
has provided in the first bibliography of cremation books published by CSEAS Library
two important documents : the ALA-LC Romanization Tables : Transliteration
schemes for non-Roman scripts, and Names of Persons: National Usages for Entry in
Catalogues so that the Romanization and entry of Thai names can be standardized in
the bibliographies of cremation books compiled later.
