The project “Improving the cutting process of the Border Laser machine” has the objective of finding the cutting parameters of the Border Laser machine for cutting 2 mm. thick pieces to increase by 20%. By using a fishbone diagram to analyze the causes of problems and study information in designing experiments. First, studying the variables that affect cutting, selecting the factors to be tested, determining the conditions used in the experiment, conducting the experiment and recording the results of the first experiment. It was found that the best value for the three variables are cutting speed of 5 m/s, peak power of 80% and cutting pressure of 6 bar. When cut real workpieces comparing the results obtained from the original variables and the new variable, it was found that the workpieces cut with the new variable had smoother cut surfaces on all 4 sides. But there were more scraps of metal than before. The second experiment was to reduce the scrap from cutting to be less than the workpiece cut with the original variable. By using a cutting speed of 5 m/s and using data analysis from the 1st experiment to determine the conditions in the 2nd experiment. When the best variable was obtained from the 2nd experiment, namely the cutting speed of 5 m/s, peak power 80 % and cutting pressure of 7 bar. The workpiece obtained by cutting with the second experimental parameter had a smoother surface and less scrap than the original parameters. Therefore, the values obtained from the second experiment were used to cut 100 real workpieces to find the percentage of cuts to compare before and after improvement. It was found that the percentage of cutting was 97%, increase from the original 32.2%, which achieved the set objectives.
