A second possible relationship is directly opposed to the first: linguisticstructure and/or behavior may either influence or determine social structure.This is the view that is behind the Whorfian hypothesis. A third possiblerelationship is that the influence is bi-directional: language and society mayinfluence each other.Let us now have a closer look at the above mentioned Whorfianhypothesis. It is a long-standing claim already concerning the relationship between language and culture that the structure of a language determines theway in which speakers of that language view the world.
