In Style: Can you say briefly what fashion means to you?
Armand : Fashion is glamor. It is charm, beauty.
In Style: You’ve destroyed many taboos in fashion, haven’t you?
Armand : Yes. When I started to work in this field, there were many rules about what was chic and not chic, what you could wear and not wear. For example, I wore riding boots to work one day, and people asked me where my horse was. I reacted against that type of thing. In fashion, you cannot say, “That is good, and that is bad.”
In Style: Do you think fashion has become international?
Armand : Well, certainly, fashion has become globalized, but each country still keeps its particular features and traditions. I appreciate that. Everybody can be, and has to be, different. It’s our differences that make us interesting to others, don’t you agree?
In Style: Absolutely. What is “being in fashion” to you?
Armand : When you wear clothes that make you feel good and confident.
In Style: Would you say that I’m “in”?
Armand : Oh, definitely! And red really suits you well.
