Results of this study add to growing evidence for the role of MALDITOF
MS as a routine component of microbiological testing of isolated
colonies for the diagnosis and exclusion of PJI. This study also highlights
the potential contribution MALDI-TOF MS in increasing our understanding
of the role of certain microorganisms in the pathogenesis of PJI.
Overall, there was minimal overlap between species encountered as
pathogens and contaminants isolated from the sites of prosthetic joints.
