The sample taken for this study is made up of
teachers teaching in institutions of higher learning in
Malaysia who volunteered to take part in the study
during three teacher development workshops conducted
by us. These teachers come from various disciplines.
Because the study was grounded in the interpretive
approach, total objectivity and neutrality in the data
analysis process cannot be claimed. We approached
teachers’ value-laden responses from our own
understanding and definition of critical thinking. We
acknowledge our own subjectivity, which we managed
by respecting the worlds and sensitivities of the
participants in the research context (Denzin & Lincoln,
1994; Holliday, 2002). Even though the results may
only be relevant directly to a Malaysian population,
they could provide information relevant to other
populations in similar situations.
