Personal Narrative- The Move that Transformed my Life
After reviewing my life, I have decided my life defining moment was when my family and I moved to Texas from Oklahoma. I consider this move my life changing moment because it changed so many things in my life. This move set the stage for an entirely new life for me. Moving six hours away from the only home I knew certainly called for many changes.
Until I was thirteen years old, I had lived in the same area, mostly Healdton, Oklahoma. After my parents divorced, my mother, sister, and I left my father and moved to Healdton. After a couple of years, both of my parents remarried. Soon conflicts arose between all sides. After several violent confrontations and threats on our lives, we decided the best thing to do was to pack up and move. That is what we did. We moved and moved far away. We told only trusted members of our family where we were headed.
We packed everything we had into U-Haul in the safety the night provided. In about four hours of continuous packing our roots were lifted. We headed due south to a place called High Island, Texas. I had only been there one time before when I was little. The justifications of why we chose High Island, which was six hours from our home, was one of my aunt’s lived there and the distance from home was great.
After a long ride, we saw our new home for the first time. It wasn’t luxurious, but to a couple of young children like us it was cool to live on the beach. The changes that lied ahead of us were great. There are many ways in which this new start changed my life. First, no longer did we live in fear. This enabled me to move on. I enrolled in eight grade that year. I felt like had a fresh start. No one knew my business. I could make myself whatever I wanted. My whole personality changed. That year I started at quarterback for junior high and from there everything started to look up. If I was to go into details of all the success I had it would be bragging, so I am just going to say I went from a casualty of a broken home to a respected and important part of High Island High School. In the five years I was there, I had more fun and a more productive life than all the other years put together.
The move to High Island was the one biggest thing that transformed my life. Moving is usually a dreadful thing, but for me it made all the difference. One often wonders “What if?” I sometimes wonder that myself, but I know that it was all a part of God’s plan for me.
