goat races are popular at Lightning Ridge. But in Alice Springs, another town in the Australian outback, people haven't got much time for goats. They're busy organising two other unusual sports.
In May there's camel racing. This started in 1971, when two friends decided to have a race on camels along the dry bed of the Todd River. Now the Camel Cup is a very big race and a lot of people come to watch. If you think there aren't enough camels in Australia for a camel race, think agian! The country has got about 150000 wild camels. In the 19th century people used them for journeys when there wasn't enough water for their horses.
