Two-wheelers are popular means of transportation in Europe, and their contribution to air pollution is generally significant, especially in urban environment. Because it is assumed that the most cold-starts of two-wheelers befall in an urban environment and thus are driven under urban driving conditions after the start, an expansion of the cold emission factor database was considered necessary. Starting from this consideration, a test bench series was carried out with a sample of two high-performance motorcycles of certification category Euro-3, and a deep characterization of their emissive behavior was performed in hot and cold conditions, both on the type-approval and on real-world test cycles. Important improvements were observed for the emission levels of these newly sold motorcycles compared with older certification category, in fact the compliance of the tested vehicles with statutory type-approval stipulation was completely satisfactory, with the two motorcycles that meet the specified Euro-3 emission limits of the ECE?EUDC and WMTC DCs.
