Plants that require low amounts of water are well adaptedplants to this particular region. If a landscape does not includespecies that are native or drought tolerant in the region, thenthey likely are moderate to high water consuming plants. Pre-vious studies reported that many widely used tree, shrub, andground vegetation maintain their aesthetic and functional valuein a landscape when irrigated within a range of about 20% to 80%of evapo-transpiration (Salvador et al., 2011). The arid ecosys-tems can support plants with minimum water requirementsthat are drought and salt tolerant for use in afforestation, land-scaping and gardening projects, as the reoccurrence of droughtis a common event in arid and semi-arid lands (Le Houerou,1996).
