Alexander Wilhelm von Brill

Alexander von Brill was given the name Alexander Wilhelm Brill, the "von" only being added in 1897. His father, Heinrich Konrad Brill (1808-1891), was a the owner of a bookshop and printing business. Heinrich was born in Darmstadt on 21 October 1808, the son of Karl Friederich Brill and Marie LuiseMallinkrott. He married Julie HenrietteSimonetta Wiener (1820-1903) and, in 1866, was a co-founder of the Association of German Printers. Julie HenrietteSimonetta Wiener was the sister of Christian Wiener who has a biography in this archive. Alexander was the eldest of his parents' six children, having siblings Ludwig Carl Wilhelm Brill (1844-1932), Karl August Christian Brill (1846-1846), Sophie Louise Brill (1847-1935), Adolph Georg Brill (born 1850), and Carl Friedrich Brill (1857-1892). Alexander Brill's school education was in Darmstadt where he attended elementary school and then a Gymnasium.
