In a study on sleep duration/sleep loss, Lesku et al. (2012) reported that male pectoral sandpipers, Calidris melanotos, were able to maintain high neurobehavioural performance despite extensive sleep loss during courtship and the most ‘sleepy’ males sired the most offspring. Sleep duration is not related to mating success in humans (Randler et al., 2012b).
