Founded in 1848, the Oneida Community was famous for its"group marriage" (all 300 members of the community married each other), and visitors can see the excellent silverware the members made. Visitors to the Midwestern states of Ohio, Indiana, and lowa often stop at Zoar Village, New Harmony, and the Amana Colonies. Zoar Village, a utopian agricultural community on Ohio's Tuscarawas River, was such a tourist attraction in the 1830s that the community built a hotel to accommodate the large number of tourists.
