1. This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) describes the on-site accumulation and packaging of energetic hazardous waste for off-site shipment.
2. All relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are stored in Building 9 and Building 12. Reference document SOP/M-GSP-BLEND (General Safety Practices – Blending) for area specific and general safety procedures for personal protective equipment (PPE) and all general requirements for powder processing operations. Reference document General Environmental Compliance Practices (GECP) for job specific requirements.
3. If an unusual or abnormal event occurs or if you are not absolutely certain of the correct technique/procedure to follow: STOP THE OPERATION IMMEDIATELY and follow the “5 STEPS TO SAFETY” (SWIM).
4. All materials to be used in this procedure are at management’s discretion.
5. Always carry totes with two hands. Either one hand cradles the tote while the other hand holds the top of the tote or two hands firmly grasping both the top and bottom of the tote.
6. Unlock the Buildings / magazines by removing the two padlocks and open door. Use the drop down door- stop to secure the door in the open position. Inspect for damage, cleanliness, allowable quantity and all other items on the posted form- APD/M-SFT0094 (Powder Storage Building -Do’s & Don’ts).
7. Never leave any Building containing energetic materials unattended. Always lock the doors! (Unattended means you are no longer able to physically see the building)
8. If you observe any loose powder of 5 grams or more “STOP and SWIM”. Contact Supervisor and or ERT.
9. All personnel who package waste for off-site shipment must have current "RCRA Training". This includes any employee who adds any waste to any waste barrels on site.
QUALITY ALERT! – Materials designated as “scrap” or “hazardous waste” must always be removed from the production floor and remain segregated until properly disposed of.
