Pinocchio begins when Gepetto-a woodcarver-builds a magnificent puppet who he names Pinocchio. One night when he sees a shooting star, Gepetto wishes that his puppet would come to life. That night while Gepetto is sleeping, a Blue Fairy arrives to grant Gepetto's wish since he has been such a good man. Though still a wooden boy, Pinocchio has no strings attached, can talk, and has the potential to become a human boy. In order to do this, Pinocchio must prove that he is brave, unselfish, and truthful. With Jiminy Cricket-a cricket that the Blue Fairy assigned to be his conscience- by his side, Pinocchio goes astray. On his way to school, Pinocchio gets tempted by Foulfellow and Gideon. He joins a puppet show instead of attending school, he begins to lie, and ends up at Pleasure Island under the control of the Coachman. After his escape, he realizes that his father, Gepetto, was swallowed by a whale while searching for Pinocchio. Pinocchio then ventures into the sea to find his father. He risks his life to rescue his father. Because of his brave, unselfish and truthful act, he earns the right to become a real boy
