In the first implementations of the selected courses, there were not many changes relative to
earlier years since the teaching materials had been inherited from the previous lecturers, and the
two new lecturers were new to the courses. Teaching methods for the first implementations were
traditional, including lectures, exercises, and a final exam. Students were not particularly engaged
during the courses. Therefore, it was clear that the teaching of these courses needed improvement
so students could achieve better learning outcomes.
