Through watching the film, it is evident that the TRC serves as a compromise between those who sought justice for their dead loved ones and those who sought amnesty for their crimes. This level of compromise functions as a great advantage to the TRC as it encouraged revealing the truth like no other program did. Families of victims were able to hear how and under what circumstances their loved ones died from those who’ve murdered them, thus allowing closure after many years of anger and heartache. The public domain of the event is another great advantage of the TRC. The South African people were able to view or hear the hearings though public broadcasting (they were even allowed to attend some public hearings) which greatly aided the process of reconciliating the nation.
