Encapsulation of EOs in polymeric particles has been investigated. However, major limitation is EOs loss especially in techniques that include a heating or an evaporation step. On the other hand, encapsulation could provide many advantages such as protection of EOs from degradation. In fact, high temperatures, UV ight and oxidation could compromise the biological activity of fragile EOs through volatilization or degradation of active ingredients. Formulation of EOs as microcapsules or microspheres could also be used for controlling release of encapsulated EOs.
