This research presents the changes seen in older pregnant women, known to be at
increased risk for foetal chromosomal abnormalities, fromthe time of pregnancy until test results of their amniocentesis were given to them. However, it only presents data on the
changes seen in these 20 older pregnant Taiwanese women during different phases of pregnancy and under different situations. Future theoretical linkages should be made
between the findings reported here and other research or conceptual perspectives on this topic. The personal meaning of aborting an abnormal foetus and the types of situations in which nurses could empower a woman and intervene to eliminate uncertainty and when interventions should be implemented is still unclear and requires further qualitative study.
