totreatment,sowsweretakendailytoadetectionmatingareawheretheyreceived20min
of boarexposureandwereartificiallyinseminatedatthefirstobservedoestrus.Asignificant
effectofreplicateontheincidenceoflactationoestruswasfound;specifically,the
proportionofsowsexpressingalactationoestruswaslowerinreplicate4(autumn)than
in theotherthreereplicates(winter/spring;0.15versus0.51; Po0.01).Inreplicate1–3, a
significantlyhigherproportionofMPcomparedtoPPsowsexperiencedalactationoestrus
(0.63versus0.36; Po0.05).LactationoestrusexpressionwaslowerforMPsowsstarting

Po0.05),butwassimilarfordays10and18oflactation(0.69versus0.79,respectively;
Po0.05).Commencingboarexposureonday18asopposedtoday10post-partum
significantlyreducedtheintervalfromboarexposuretolactationoestrusexpression
(4.570.8versus7.770.8days,respectively; Po0.05).Therefore,fullphysicalboarexposure
stimulatedahighproportionoflactationoestrusinmultiparoussows;however,season
impactedthisexpression,andfirstparitysowsarelesslikelythanmultiparoussowsto
