The atemoya is a hybrid of two fruits – the sugar apple and the cherimoya. The fruit is popular in Asia, South and Central America, Cuba, and the Mid-East.
The flesh is not segmented like the Sugar Apple but more similar to the Cherimoya. It is very juicy and slightly sweet, a bit like a piña colada. When it's ripe the fruit can be eaten right out of the shell with a spoon, like custard.
The atemoya needs artificial hand pollination to produce the best quality fruits. The 'Geffner' variety produces without hand pollination. If an Atemoya develops with one side misshapen it is usually the result of inadequate pollination.
We have developed many unusual varieties of this fruit.
