Accomplishment of T&D Objectives
Still another approach to evaluating T&D programs involves determining the extent to which programs have achieved stared objectives and have actually impacted performance. For instance, if the objective of an accident-preventi0n program is to reduce the number and severity of accidents by 15 percent, comparing accident rates before and after training provides a useful metric of success. As another example, a firm might establish a return~0n-investment (ROD metric. however, in some circumstances, the actual ROI number may be hard to establish because of the difficulty in isolating the effects of training. Mike Perkins, e-learning manager for the Newell Rubbermaid-Rubbermaid/IRWIN Group, said “We look at developing things on a small scale for a minimum amount of money and then try to show the return on investment or at least the potential of what this could be if it W-as scaled out.
