Risk is the result of hazard × probability and hazards occurring with GM feeds are:
– unexpected gene interactions, different from the foreseen effects of the transferred gene
construct (with synthesis of some toxic compounds);
– allergenicity, caused directly by the new proteins or by their interaction with primitive
proteins, producing a new allergen;
– insertion of the foreign gene into the organism fed with GM, by absorption and interaction
with the host cell DNA;
– toxicity of gene products or negative influence on feed composition causing negative
performance of fed animals.
