The preceding paragraph makes abundantly clear the point made earlier about the close relations between politics and economies. Just about every one of the countries and regimes previously named were authoritarian regimes; it is no accident that they also preferred ISI policies. Authoritarianism and a strong central state or dictatorship in the political went hand – in – hand with คตินิยมอำนาจ or ISI in the economic arena. Strong statist controls in the economic realm reinforced and strengthened to authoritarianism of the political regime – and vice versa. Mercantilism of state control of the economy gave these authoritarian regimes, which already exercised full control over the political and military realms, one more handle – the economic – by which to dominate their countries, No wonder the authoritarian regimes preferred the ISI model, even after it had clearly run its course.
