A. atlas cocoons had the highest degumming loss of 22 % followed by the inner and in- termediate layers with degumming loss of 10 and 7.3 %, respectively. Relatively stronger conditions are required to degum wild silk fibers compared to B. mori silk fibers due to the chemical interactions between wild silk ser- icins and inorganic components and the minerals pres- ent in the cocoons [22].
