The "Tren Bioceánico" (Interoceanic Railway), to be constructed with support provided by the Chinese government, will strengthen integration and bilateral trade between Brazil and Peru, Brazilian Ambassador appointed to Peru Carlos Alfredo Lazary Teixeira affirmed.
"Trade between Brazil and Peru will be boosted. Our interest is this [route] to become a competitive logistic corridor and transport non-traditional value-added products," he told El Peruano official newspaper.
The railway is "the best ideal and the best formula," aimed at guarantying a sustainable growth in bilateral trade. Currently, the commercial exchange between Peru and Brazil total around US$3.6 billion. "Our target is to achieve the US$10 billion, as President Rousseff expressed when she visited Lima in 2013," Texeira added.
Given its complexity, the project feasibility study will be ready within a one-year period.
The Interoceanic Railway would be the third integration corridor connecting Peru and Brazil. Currently, the other two existing axes are the Interoceanic Highway, which reaches Peruvian Ilo and Matarani ports; the other one connects the northern part of the country with Brazil's Port of Manaus.
