Home-base (docking) locations must be identified. After placing the initial STC robots in a secluded
hallway, we later created alcoves for the robots, such that the stationary robots are not in the hallway but are
slightly recessed. Another practical consideration is the presence or anticipation of other pharmacy-based
or non-pharmacy-based robots.
Robots may be decentralized or centralized (i.e., designated only for
a specific home base, shared among pharmacy-based satellites, or shared among pharmacy and nonpharmacy
departments). The concept of a pharmacy-based pool of robots to
be summoned by any pharmacy, or
of a hospital-based pool of robots to
be summoned by any department, is
intriguing.
