Separation distances above 750 m occur only with NW wind. Forboth branches, separation distances by LASAT are considerablylarger. The average separation distance for 3% determined by LASATis 540 m, compared to only 335 mwith AODM (Table 7). r2 is a high0.96, but the residual mean square is high, indicating considerabledeviations from the regression line.Looking at the comparison for 8% exceedence probability(Fig. 10b), the scatter is again reduced, in line with the comparisonsshown before. The range of separation distances is again larger withLASAT compared to AODM. The average separation distance forLASAT is 272 m and this time larger than that for AODM (208 m;Table 7). r2 is a high 0.98. The increase of the tolerated exceedenceprobability from 3 to 8 % reduces the average separation distancefor LASAT by about 270 m and for AODM by about 130 m.
4. Discussion
Odour impact criteria, i.e. a combination of an odour concentrationthreshold value and a tolerated exceedence probability, areused in many countries to determine separation distances betweenodour sources and residential areas to avoid odour nuisance. Aselection of different national odour impact criteria is summarizedfor European countries, for U.S. states, Australia and NewZealand inSommer-Quabach et al. (2014) and Piringer and Schauberger
