In the first two texts above , there is apparently little of discursive consequence : as indicated earlier, their focus is firmly upon the linguistic end of humour. The third bottle text is notable,however, in that linguistic humour leads to discursive humour. This is, the teacher's contrived misunderstanding of students' phonology (verbalization) enabled a tension at the symbolic stratum, which in turn could humorously position students to their detriment in the discursive stratum
