Blood transfusion regimens in pregnant women
with SCD are dependent on their transfusion
history. If a woman is transfusion dependant,
the midwife should be aware that top–up blood
transfusions will continue during pregnancy;
however, with the demands of the pregnancy
these may become more frequent. Support and
recognition is required by the midwife if the
