Hormones synchronize cyclic changes in the ovary and uterus
Oogenesis is one part of a female mammal’s reproductive cycle, a recurring sequence of events that produces gametes, makes them available for fertilization, and, as we will see, prepares the body for pregnancy. In oogenesis in the last module, we described the cyclic events that occur about every 28 day in the human ovary; this ovarian cycle is represented in past 3 of figure 27.5 on the facing page. As the figure indicates, hormonal messages synchronize the ovarian cycle with related events in the uterus called the menstrual cycle(part 5). The hormone story (parts 1,2,4 ) is complex and involves intricate feedback mechanisms. Therefore,we’ll need to move up and down the figure to follw the actions of the hormones. Notice that the time scale at the bottom of part 5 also applies to parts 2-4
