Dear all,
Hello everyone. This is Yuki Uemura at Office of Faculty of Science and Engineering in Chuo University. I hope everyone is doing well.
Earlier this month, I have introduced you about "Tea Ceremony Experience" Today, I'd like to introduce a UN (United Nations) event which was held at Chuo University. Participating in UN Academic Impact, Chuo University keeps building awareness for the world-wide agenda, such as poverty reduction throughout the 3-part event, starting October. http://global.chuo-u.ac.jp/english/events/2014/10/6162/ A Korean student, Mr.Seo, who is studying in Global Water Environment Course has attended Day 1 event on October 18, has shared his impression as follows;
"I have attended the UN event held lately. Thanks to the event, it was good opportunity to make me think about various things. It was beneficial to watch the documentary program titled "Solar Mama", and also hear the lectures from panelists who are working at actual field. In the documentary program, some countries are not supportive for women to play important role in their society, or to receive proper education, and this is sad. However, I felt even in such extreme environment, there are things you can make happen if you try. In reality, women's participation in science, especially in civil engineering field, is still not so active, but I feel it is increasing compared to the past. And at the same time, Society system is also improving, in result, whether you are man or women, the most important thing is to be positive, and keep your dream that you can do for sure."
As Mr.Seo's comment, Chuo University is providing the opportunity to think about the global issue, such as human right, poverty, and environment, etc. Hope you will have chance to participate after you come to Japan. By the way, Mr.Seo has come to Japan in October 2013, and his Japanese is already so fluent ! But no worries. Please don't worry and keep your Japanese study going !!
Hope you will have a chance to write me back and let me know how you are doing recently.
Look forward to hearing from you.
