Demolition of ships
The Indian subcontinent continued to be the major
ship-breaking region in 2012, accounting for more
than 70 per cent of the tonnage (GT) reported sold for
breaking. Within the subcontinent, Bangladesh was
the largest ship-breaking country, followed by India
and Pakistan. Chinese breakers demolished 21.6 per
cent and the rest of the world the remaining 11.7 per
cent (table 2.9).
