The service will continue to be developed and
there are plans to include audits on:
■■ Cognitive assessment and ECT.
■■ Auditing of ECT paperwork.
■■ ECT outcomes in postnatal women.
■■ Patient experience audits.
■■ ECT open days for all healthcare professions.
Cognitive assessment audit is ongoing. The audit
is assessing the referring teams’ compliance with
recommended cognitive testing for ECT patients.
The recommendations are:
■■ Baseline cognitive testing before starting a course
of ECT.
■■ Repeat testing when the course is complete.
■■ Repeat testing at three months post ECT.
■■ Repeat testing at six months post ECT.

The audit of ECT paperwork is ongoing. The aim of
the audit is to assess frequency and documentation
of patient reviews during a course of ECT, also
completion of the Montgomery Asberg Depression
Rating Scale and Clinical Global Impression when the
course of treatment has finished.
