4.4.3. Testing the impact of External Fit
Hoque (1999, p. 426) tested the Schuler and Jackson (1987) argument that ‘‘HRM
should prove effective only within quality-enhancer or innovative hotels.’’ Following
the approach adopted by Hoque, each hotel was ranked according to the extent to
which they had adopted the 21 HRM practices discussed earlier. The objective was
to look at the extent to which HRM practices had been adopted, and their
