The effect of β-glucan on fungi, rather than on the
host, has rarely been examined. Recently, it was reported
that fungi and bacteria produce autoinducers that control
behavior, a condition described as quorum-sensing (18,
19). Fungal cell wall β-glucan seems useful for controlling
the pathogenicity or the effective application of fungi. In
this study, the influence of β-glucan on the growth of
Aspergillus was examined.
