not bringing so many germs home, and they responded
accordingly. “The company spent $25,000 to upgrade
our facilities. They don’t get much in return but we do,”
people responded.
In a Word . . .
Business is serious stuff and social butterfly types tend to
trivialize it. They might never do so intentionally, but that
does not matter. Focus on harnessing the people-to-people talents that come so naturally to these individuals. As
a matter of fact, you might be able to learn social butterfly “graces” from this employee. It’s flattering to this
individual when you emulate her approach. Just don’t
be lulled into a comfort-zone when things are going well,
because the social butterfly usually can’t distinguish
between friendly, caring behavior and behavior that
oversteps “business boundaries.” It’s probably a waste
of time to expect otherwise, so remain vigilant.
