One of the problems that SMEs often encounter in
many countries is lack of institutional support for their
operations (Sentsho et al., 2007). However, Sentsho et al.
(2007) identify a number of institutions that support
SME development in Botswana. One of these institutions is the CEDA, which plays a critical role in
Botswana’s economic growth by providing entrepreneurship development, through funding, training, and
mentoring. It was established by the Botswana government with the objective of providing financial and technical support for business development in order to
promote viable and sustainable citizen-owned business
enterprises (CEDA, 2011). In addition, CEDA was
meant to introduce the professional management of
the government’s financial assistance initiatives and to
streamline the numerous projects providing similar
schemes.
