Reilly et al. (2006) examined the impact of a 12 month
programme of 30 min of exercise performed 3 times per
week (no details were provided); the intent was to develop
motor skill. At baseline, children were on average 4.2 years
of age. The intervention had no effect on BMI SD score relative
to control groups. This paper raised considerable interest
and debate, because the intervention to enhance PA
levels did not lead to a significant augmentation of objectively
measured PA relative to control groups
