Following the group interview, successful flight attendant candidates underwent three personal interviews conducted separately by a peer, a recruiter, and a representative of the hiring department. After appraising and ranking the candidates, the three interviewers then convened and reached a consensus on which candidates to hire.
In all job interviews, southwest utilized the principles of targeted selection- an interviewing technique that identified specific dimensions necessary for matching people to jobs. One dimension critical to all job categories at southwest was teamwork. An interviewer might say, tell me about a time in one of your prior jobs where you went above and beyond to assist a co worker or tell me about time when you had a conflict with co worker.
