Despite all the advantages,CD-ROM technology was far from perfect. The biggest problem related to playing video games was speed. Compared to a cartridge, a compact disk required more time to access data. Access times were important,as most video games required fast-paced action. Any slowdown in the access and processing of data could hurt game play. However. this problem was not insurmountable. As the technology advanced and game developers became more experienced with CD-ROMs speed was expected to become less of a concern.
