There are several explanations for the higher content of vitamin E and oryzanol in the oil extracted using subcritical carbon dioxide. One possible explanation is that the mild extraction temperature used in the subcritical carbon dioxide method allows the retention of thermolabile compounds. Nevertheless, various extraction methods and solvents have been reported to result in higher levels of tocopherols and tocotrienols in rice bran oil than those in rice bran oil obtained using the SCDS method.
