For the production of ethanol from wood waste hydrolysates,
5.0 g/l of yeast extract, 1.0 g/l of K2HPO4, and 1.0 g/l of MgSO4 were
added to the acid hydrolysate. Five percent of the seed culture was
transferred into 250-ml Erlenmeyer flasks containing 80 ml of the
synthetic medium and incubated for 72 h at 30 C and 200 rpm in
orbital shaker. The initial pH in the medium was adjusted to 6.0
using 1 N HCl or 1 N NaOH. Samples were withdrawn periodically
to determine cell growth, residual substrate, and product yield.
