For functional and descriptive purposes,the tract is normally divided into two main parts,one above the larynx,the other below it.Within the larynx itself are the vocal cord or vocal folds the aperture between the folds is known as the glottis,and the tract above the glottis is called the supraglottal vocal tract and below it the subglottal vocal tract.
