Founded in 1990, the University of Washington Bothell (UWB)
campus is one of the newest and fastest growing public
universities in the state of Washington. Initially designed to be an
upper-division only campus serving place and time bound adult
students, the campus has since grown to admit its first freshmen
class in 2006. In 2012 more than half of UWB incoming freshmen
are first generation college students and 43% of the students
receive financial aid.2 Many of our students pursue their degrees
with the main purpose of securing quality employment with the
vibrant regional high-tech industry to improve their lives. Our
courses are constantly under tension between students' desire for
applicability that is suitable for near-term employability, and
faculty’s perspective of abstract conceptual contents that are
important for life-long learning.
