Some of the comets appear to belong to families—to be, as one might say, cousins. By that, we mean that they move in the same way though not in the same paths. There was a trio, all very bright, that came in 1843, 1880 and 1882. Each was a comet that had a very long journey, which came very near to the sun in going round it and went round in an unusual way—opposite to the hands of a clock.
